The “Birth” of The Nurturing Company

Hi there! We’re Randi Armstrong and Brianna Trammell, the co-founders of The Nurturing Company. Our story is one of friendship, growth, and a shared vision that has led us to create something truly special for the families we serve. Our dedication to your needs is at the heart of everything we do.

How We Met

It all started back in 2022 when we first crossed paths in the birth community. We were both working as birth photographers and doulas (also known as doula-togs), and although we didn’t know it yet, we had already started building a foundation for something bigger. We admired each other’s work and started supporting one another at client births, where we quickly learned how well we complemented each other’s skills. We slowly became internet friends, bonding over our shared love of birth and our desire to help families through such a transformative time.

Our Doula-Photographer Dream Team

By 2023, we decided to take the leap and start working together professionally under the business Sprout and Blossom Birth. Our unique blend of services—offering birth photography and doula care—was a hit with our clients, and we quickly grew in friendship (this time in real life) and business. Together, we made a fantastic team, supporting families with emotional care and beautiful birth photography.

As we worked together, we realized we had something truly special—our partnership felt magical and allowed us to provide families with an experience that was both professional and profoundly nurturing. We aimed to create something that not only embodied our shared values but also offered even more to the families we worked with. Over time, our friendship deepened, and we began to dream about how we could expand our business to better serve our clients.

The Birth of The Nurturing Company

One day, Brianna came to Randi with a brilliant idea: what if we started something completely new, something that felt like a natural next step for both of us? We dedicated countless hours to brainstorming, researching, and refining our ideas until we finally discovered a name that resonated perfectly: The Nurturing Company: Photography & Doula Services. We wanted a name that encapsulated our essence—our mission to nurture, support, and guide families on their journey into parenthood.

The name represented more than just business; it represented our hearts and our approach. We wanted to be there for our clients in a way that extended beyond merely providing a service. We wanted to hold their hands, support them emotionally, and capture the raw beauty of their birth stories. The Nurturing Company was born out of that vision. For us, the act of nurturing wasn't just a job; it was a calling.

Birth Equity: Supporting BIPOC Families Through the Birth Equity Fund

One of the most important aspects of The Nurturing Company is our commitment to birth equity. We are dedicated to addressing systemic inequities that disproportionately affect BIPOC families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. As doulas and birth photographers, we understand that birthing people of color often encounter societal and medical challenges stemming from the enduring effects of racism in the healthcare system. These challenges may include bias from healthcare professionals, limited access to quality care, and an increased risk of complications.

To help address these disparities, Brianna established The Nurturing Company's Birth Equity Fund. This fund provides financial support to BIPOC families in need of assistance with accessing birth and postpartum doula services. We believe that every family deserves to have their story told with dignity, and we want to do what we can to make sure that finances aren’t a barrier to receiving the care and support they deserve.

The Birth Equity Fund is just one way we can support families of color and amplify voices that have been marginalized for too long. For us, it’s about making a difference in the lives of the families we serve, while also being part of a larger movement for change in the birth community.

A New Chapter

Now, with The Nurturing Company, we’re excited to continue growing and evolving our business. We’re blending our expertise in photography and doula services into a cohesive offering, while remaining focused on our mission to support and hold the hands of families during one of the most transformative moments of their lives.

As we look ahead, we’re filled with excitement and hope. There are so many more families to support, stories to share, and moments to capture. The Nurturing Company is more than just a business to us—it’s our passion, our purpose, and our commitment to the families we serve.

Thank you for being with us on this journey. We can’t wait to see what the future brings!
